Cat5e cables UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) are most commonly used in the United States. These are made from 24AWG Stranded category 5e cable with PVC jackets. Category 5e cables are UL rated and comply with EIA/TIA 568B Standards.

CAT6 cables contain four pairs of copper wire and unlike CAT5, utilize all four pairs. CAT6 supports Gigabit (1000 Mbps) Ethernet. These cables support communications at more than twice the speed of CAT5e, the other popular standard for Gigabit Ethernet cabling. Cat6 cable runs are limited to a maximum recommended distance of 100m (328 feet). Cat6 comes in two main varieties, solid and stranded. Solid CAT6 cable supports longer runs and is best suited for configurations like office buildings. Stranded CAT6 cable is more flexible and is better suited for shorter distances. Close
