KVM Extenders and KVM Console Extenders
A KVM extender is a compact hardware device that consists of a transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) that gives you the ability to send KVM (keyboard, video and mouse) console signals long distances over Cat5/Cat5e/Cat6 or Fiber Optic Cables. Transmission of the KVM over Cat5 is achieved by connecting your KVM source, such as a PC, to the transmitter which is then connected to the remote receiver via UTP, STP or fiber cable. The remote location is where you connect your keyboard, video display and mouse for remote KVM control of your computer. System selection and management is typically done via push buttons on the KVM extender or hot key combinations via the keyboard and also have LED’s to show the status of the connected devices. External power is required for these units in order to function properly.
The KVM extender is available in several models including PS2 and USB versions and can maintain high quality VGA or DVI video resolutions. Other KVM over Cat5 options also allow for transmission of RS232, audio, TCP/IP and infrared signals as well. The KVM on Cat5 unit is compatible with most operating systems and is perfect for industrial, commercial and government applications at all levels as these devices can offer increased security and a noise free work environment.
