A KVM Switch is a rackmount or desktop hardware device designed specifically to allow a single user to control multiple computers via a single keyboard, monitor and mouse (KVM). SmartVM’s rackmount PS/2 KVM Switch is made in a rugged metal enclosure and consists of PS/2 keyboard and mouse connections and VGA video connections and comes in 4, 8 and 16-port versions. (Optional models may use DVI video, such as the DVI KVM Switch or the Dual Video DVI KVM Switch.) Other options may include USB keyboard and mouse as well as Audio KVM Switch.
The 16-port version is rack mountable. The rack mount PS2 KVM switches are cascadable for control of up to 128 servers and have built in OSD and password security protection. PS2 KVM Switch with rack mount supports high resolution up to 1920 x 1440 with a bandwidth of 200MHz. Also known as a rackmount Server Switch, these units are hot pluggable, requiring no shutdown of systems when performing routine maintenance. PS2 KVM Switches are also compatible with most operating systems, such as DOS, Win3.X, Win95/98/98SE/2000/ME, WinNT, Netware, UNIX and Linux. SmartVM’s PS2 Switch emulates PS2 (PS/2) keyboard and mouse on all ports and can be controlled via push buttons on the front of the KVM or keyboard “hot key” commands or the OSD (on-screen display). The SmartVM 8-Port and 16-Port PS2 KVM Switch is also designed to integrate seamlessly into our 1U/2U Rackmount KVM Drawer. Other models include KVM over IP and Cat5 KVM Switch. These units are ideal for any environment involving multiple computers including server rooms, data centers, banks, control rooms, command centers, military, surveillance and security, small office, home office (SOHO) and commercial organizations.
